Capturing The Journey - A Citadel Cadet's Senior Photo Session

As the golden hour descended upon the historic grounds of The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina, an extraordinary senior session unfolded, capturing not just the achievements of a dedicated cadet but the spirit of her journey at the Citadel. Amy Quinn Hill Photography had the privilege of documenting this momentous occasion, offering a glimpse into the culmination of 4 years of discipline, dedication, and growth for this proud female cadet, with a special appearance by her supportive younger sister, also a cadet.

A Day at The Citadel: More Than Just Portraits

The Citadel, with its rich history and tradition, provided a backdrop that is both inspiring and majestic. The session began amidst the grandeur of live oak trees at the edge of the iconic Summerall Field, fondly referred to as the "parade ground." Capturing the cadet in her uniform, we aimed to mirror the blend of personal achievement and collective identity that defines the cadet experience.

Transitioning to the iconic Citadel Ring statue, a monument that embodies the bond and dedication among Citadel cadets, offered a poignant backdrop for our portraits. The cadet, wearing her ring, a symbol of hard work and commitment, stood proudly, epitomizing achievement and promise. We also highlighted the campus's elegance at the entrance, capturing classic shots against the backdrop of its majestic black and gold ironwork doors.

While the sun was dipping lower, casting longer shadows and bathing the campus in a warm, golden light we used the Summerall Chapel as our backdrop. Highlighted by its magnificent wooden doors, the Summerall Chapel provided a moment for reflection. Seen as a portal to The Citadel's heart and spirit, the chapel doors perfectly framed the cadet, symbolizing her evolution from a student to a leader poised to leave her imprint on the world.

Sisterly Bond and Support

Adding to the emotion and depth of the session, the cadet's younger sister, also a fellow cadet, joined in. This not only added a playful and loving dynamic to the session but also underscored the support and camaraderie that are fundamental to the cadet experience. Their interaction, full of laughter and shared looks, brought a personal touch to the session, reminding us that behind every uniform is a story of individual struggle, support, and triumph.

As the sun slipped behind the barracks, our time was drawing to a close. During these last moments, we captured a mix of detailed and candid shots, with a particular focus on the strong bond between the two sisters. Their warm embraces and infectious laughter, on the grounds of the parade deck, not only highlighted their individual accomplishments but also the depth of their connection. The younger sister’s evident pride brought an additional layer of emotion to the photos.

The session concluded with powerful portraits against a black backdrop, which made the cadet, dressed in her uniform, stand out strikingly. These final images provided a dramatic ending to a memorable session.
